Golf club companies have spent a fair portion
of their advertising budget convincing golfers that if they
are on the tee box they should be hitting a driver.
There is a good reason for this. Titanium drivers are the most
expensive club in the bag to purchase. It stands to reason that
traditional manufacturers and retailers would want to sell as
many as they can.
However, research shows that new golfers
often hit higher lofted, shorter clubs further and more consistently.
It makes more sense to hit a 3 wood 210 yards into the fairway
than a driver 240 into an unplayable lie.
One of the biggest benefits of titanium
is the head size that can be achieved without sacrificing strength.
Because the heads are larger when compared to their stainless
steel counterparts, they typically have an expanded impact zone
or sweet spot.
GigaGolf Woods
build custom made titanium woods (Acer
XP TI)
that have the benefits of the expanded sweet spot combined with
the higher loft and slightly shorter length that make them more
playable for many of us.
A golfer who is having trouble with the
driver may want to try a titanium 3 wood from the tee box and
a custom made steel wood
(3 - 7) (Acer
XP)
for tight fairway lies.
